At the Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) Conference, in Johannesburg in September, nine ASELPH Fellows shared their research into various aspects of the South African Health System. Presentation themes included hospital infrastructure, labour relations, performance assessment in hospitals, and factors affecting medicine availability.
The presentations were well received by the 50 delegates who attended the Symposium, which was organized in partnership with the National Department of Health. It included a Dialogue Workshop that featured Dr. Anban Pillay, the Deputy Director General in the NDOH: Health Regulation and Compliance, the Acting HOD for Gauteng, Dr. Ernest Kenoshi, and the HOD for North West, Dr. Thabo Lekalakala. In addition to sharing research from the field, the event enabled PHASA delegates and ASLEPH Fellows to engage with these senior members of the National Department of Health on issues relating to the implementation of South Africa's National Health Insurance initiative.
